The Missouri Organic Association is excited to bring to life our very first one day conference as a fall workshop! The MOA Fall Workshop will be held Monday, November 15, 2021 at the Hartsburg Grand – 30 S Second Street, Hartsburg, MO.
This fall workshop was designed to be an extension of our 2021 Mid-America Organic Conference that was limited due to state requirements at the time. The programming will consist of topics that promote land-based living and supporting your income. The workshop will be a full day of learning and will include a locally sourced lunch. Stay afterwards for our annual MOA meeting to add your input for the future of MOA and how we can better help local farmers.
Then hang out for the rest of the evening and join us for the November Grand Potluck & Farm Report, a fun monthly event that features great food and live music.
This workshop will be a full day of speakers and workshops focused on supporting you as a farmer or producer doing business in Missouri in an eco-friendly way. We want to help you incorporate small-scale sustainability and self-sufficiency into your life!

Alex Queathem
Alex Queathem is a bioregional herbalist, botanist, and gardener. She is the administrator, teacher, as well as a graduate of the Columbines School of Botanical Studies. She is the co-founder and one of the primary instructors of the Tend & Flourish School located in the confluence of Missouri and Illinois. Alex is currently studying biology with a focus in botany and horticulture. Many of her jobs have been plant oriented ranging from landscaping, biodynamic farming to currently teaching field botany and ecology. She is a volunteer educator at the Missouri Botanical Garden’s Litzsinger Road Ecology Center. When she’s not shuffling paperwork around for the schools, she is restoring 4.5 acres of land in Cedar Hill, MO back to native glade/prairie and woodland habitat. Alex also enjoys gardening, foraging, and developing new products for her company, Tending the Wild Botanicals.
Crystal Stevens
Crystal Stevens is an author, folk herbalist, organic farmer, permaculturalist, and multidisciplinary artist/art teacher. Stevens lives along the bluffs of the Mighty Mississippi River in Godfrey, Ilinois with her husband and 2 children. Stevens is the author of Grow Create Inspire, published by New Society Publishers in the fall of 2016 and Worms at Work, published in 2017. Her third book, Your Edible Yard, will be released in spring of 2020. Stevens speaks at conferences and Mother Earth News Fairs across the United States. She has been teaching a Resilient Living workshop series for over a decade. Stevens is a permaculture educator with the Permaculture Women’s Guild. She and her husband, Eric Stevens, co-founded FLOURISH which encompasses a farm, a plant nursery, an apothecary, design services and educational programming including a Permaculture Design Course, and dozens of workshops throughout each season.
Prospect and Feasibility of Organic Lamb Production on Small Farms

Dr. Tumen Wuliji is an Associate Professor and Program Leader of Animal Science at Cooperative Research, and graduate faculty in the Department of Agriculture & Environmental Sciences. He has more than 30 years of small ruminant animal breeding and organic production experience at various institutions, including UNSW (Australia), AgResearch (NZ), Langston Goat Research Institute (OK) and University of Nevada (Reno). He had conducted sheep, goat and camelids breeding, reproduction and organic production research, and published over 120 papers, textbook chapters, and special publications.

He homesteads in the Ozark, Southern Missouri, where he catches wild honeybee swarms and keeps bees in easy-to-build horizontal hives. Will Winter, DVM is a holistic herd health consultant and livestock nutritionist who hangs his hat in Minnesota. He is also a writer and traveling teacher focusing on livestock, regenerative agriculture, and traditional nutrition. He provides natural and holistic livestock consulting for producers and enjoys raising pastured hogs, hair sheep and meat goats. He is the inspector and certifier for the American Grassfed Association and as such visits, inspects or consults on over 100 livestock operations from coast to coast every year.
