As the world has faced its challenges over the last couple of months, we here at Missouri Organic Association have been cooking up a big surprise.

Earlier this year we received a generous donation of two buildings from Bill Rotts and Sylvia Donnelly – The Hartsburg Grand and The Hartsburg Station.

Situated in the Missouri River bottoms amidst fields of corn and soybeans, these historic buildings have weathered a great deal of change from the exchange of various owners and industries to withstanding the Great Flood of ‘93. They truly embody the strong heart of a small Missouri rural town.
With the wonderful donation of these two buildings, this opens up a number of incredible opportunities for the future of MOA!
While the buildings have previously been home to a general store, a post office, a barbershop, a drugstore, a general store, a cycle depot, a community center, an events venue, and various restaurants, the two additions will now help to accommodate the needs of our growing organization.
The historic Hartsburg Grand consists of a restaurant on the lower floor which can seat 50 with a side room that can accommodate 20. The upstairs level holds a small lobby area and the Riverstage, a one-of-a-kind space that has recently been used to host live theatre, bands, dances, movies, and weddings, with a maximum capacity of 170.

The adjacent Hartsburg Station has a rustic and casual cafe atmosphere with a capacity of 160, including a banquet room in the back that can host 25 guests. Both donated buildings come equipped with kitchen equipment, serving ware, event supplies, and various decor items.
Missouri Organic Association intends to use the Historic Hartsburg Grand to host programming for 30-50 people at various educational day-long workshops similar to the programming we offer at our Annual Mid-America Organic Conference.
Meanwhile, the current plan is to use the Hartsburg Station as our official headquarters and rebrand its title to reflect this change. It would be available for use during larger events (one-day festivals or conferences), specialized value-adding production or culinary programming, and potentially a processing kitchen available at an hourly rate for fermented foods, medicinal plant extracts, or other prepared goods needing a health inspected kitchen.
We are so grateful for the generosity of our donors and we look forward to the great opportunities that these buildings will bring in guiding our mission of inspiring, supporting, and empowering through ecological organic principles!
