MOA’s TOPP Role

The Missouri Organic Association (MOA) has long been committed to helping farmers transition to organic production and supporting the growth of organic agriculture nationwide. One key way we’ve been able to expand this work is through the USDA’s Transition to Organic Partnership Program (TOPP). With TOPP funding, MOA has helped connect farmers with mentorship opportunities, created systems to support the transition process, and brought greater awareness to the organic label and practices.

Last week, MOA staff joined other organizations from across the Midwest to meet and begin planning for the next phase of this initiative. Together, we discussed strategies for maintaining the systems and relationships we’ve built, while continuing to expand awareness about organic practices and the benefits of the organic market.

We are continuing to grow TOPP programming in Missouri. This includes the upcoming third annual Organics in the Ozarks, happening July 10th, which will bring together farmers, experts, and industry partners to share knowledge and foster connections. In addition, MOA works to pair transitioning farmers with certified organic producers who can serve as mentors, providing guidance through the certification process.

These efforts have already led to inspiring success stories. Most recently, Table Top Farms successfully transitioned to organic, and mentors like Aaron Stark have been pivotal in helping several producers navigate the journey from conventional to organic production.

Through programs like TOPP, MOA is proud to support farmers every step of the way—helping them gain the tools, knowledge, and mentorship needed for a successful organic transition. As we move forward, we remain committed to expanding organic opportunities, connecting producers, and building sustainable systems that benefit farmers and communities alike.

If you would like to enroll, visit the TOPP website HERE.

And if you have questions about the process, about organic certification, or about farming in general, make sure to stop into our virtual Open Office Hours, held every Wednesday from noon to 2.
